Learning the meaning of new stimuli increases the cross-correlated activity of prefrontal neurons

The prefrontal cortex (PF) has a key role in learning rules and generating associations between stimuli and responses also called conditional motor learning. Previous studies in PF have examined conditional motor learning at the single cell level but not the correlation of discharges between neurons at the ensemble level. In the present study, we recorded from two rhesus monkeys in the dorsolateral and the mediolateral parts of the prefrontal cortex to address the role of correlated firing of simultaneously recorded pairs during conditional motor learning.

Enhancing endocannabinoid neurotransmission augments the efficacy of extinction training ameliorates traumatic stress-induced behavioral alterations in rats

Exposure to a traumatic event may result in the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Endocannabinoids are crucial modulators of the stress response, interfere with excessive retrieval and facilitate the extinction of traumatic memories. Exposure therapy, combined with pharmacotherapy, represents a promising tool for PTSD treatment. We investigated whether pharmacological manipulations of the endocannabinoid system during extinction learning ameliorates the behavioral changes induced by trauma exposure.

White light constrained multi-primary modulation for visible light communication

The application of visible light communication (VLC) systems is to transmit data while maintaining efficient and good quality illumination service. In order to meet standard lighting requirements when multi-colored modulation techniques are used, such as color shift keying (CSK), the color fluctuation becomes a relevant issue. This paper presents a multi- primary (multi-color) modulation technique which provides reliable data transmission while keeping a strong constraint on the light color illuminated by every symbol of the modulation alphabet.

Energy-constrained slot-amplitude modulation with dimming support

This letter proposes a modulation scheme that combines both pulse slots and amplitudes in a flexible manner to obtain a desired level of flicker-free dimming while efficiently conveying information for visible light communication. The scheme is referred to as energy-constrained slot-amplitude modulation (ECSAM). Specifically, the total energy for every macro-symbol, containing multiple pulse slots, is fixed at a level that depends on the requested dimming target by adjusting the number of active slots and their amplitude levels.
