State-of-the-art imaging techniques in the management of preoperative staging and re-staging of prostate cancer

We aimed to review the current state-of-the-art imaging methods used for primary and secondary staging of prostate cancer, mainly focusing on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging and positron-emission tomography/computed tomography with new radiotracers.

The role of contrast-enhanced imaging for colorectal cancer management

Purpose of Review: Imaging is fundamental in the management of colorectal cancer (CRC). Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (CEMR) are the imaging modalities recommended to stage and restage CRC. The aim of this review is to summarize the most relevant studies published on the role of contrast-enhanced imaging for the management of CRC. Recent Findings: There are published data demonstrating the accuracy of CECT and CEMR for local staging of both colon and rectal cancer, as well as for the evaluation of distant metastases.

This joint position paper illustrates the role and the correct use of echocardiography, radionuclide imaging with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, radionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging for the evaluation and management of patients with known or suspected cardiac sarcoidosis. This position paper will aid in standardizing imaging for cardiac sarcoidosis and may facilitate clinical trials and pooling of multi-centre data on cardiac sarcoidosis.

Hybrid imaging of musculoskeletal infections

This review article highlights the role of radiological and nuclear medicine techniques in diagnosis of musculoskeletal infections with particular regard to hybrid imaging of osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections, sternal infections and spine infections. Authors conclude on the complementary role of the several techniques with indications for an appropriate diagnostic flow chart, in the light of the recent European Association of Nuclear Medicine guidelines on infection.

Recommendations on nuclear and multimodality imaging in IE and CIED infections

In the latest update of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines for the management of infective endocarditis (IE), imaging is positioned at the centre of the diagnostic work-up so that an early and accurate diagnosis can be reached. Besides echocardiography, contrast-enhanced CT (ce-CT), radiolabelled leucocyte (white blood cell, WBC) SPECT/CT and [18F]FDG PET/CT are included as diagnostic tools in the diagnostic flow chart for IE.

Hybrid imaging in crohn's disease. from SPECT/CT to PET/MR and new image interpretation criteria

Crohn's disease is a chronic relapsing disease characterized by mucosal inflammation, lymphocytes infiltration and fibrotic strictures. Usually, the assessment of location, extension, inflammatory activity and severity of intestinal lesions is complex and invasive with endoscopic methods or histological and biochemical investigations. Thus, the diagnosis remains a challenge for the management of patients. Nuclear medicine techniques, in particular hybrid and molecular imaging, might offer a valid option for the evaluation and determination of the prognosis of the disease.
