Network analysis of gut microbiome and metabolome to discover microbiota-linked biomarkers in patients affected by non-small cell lung cancer

Several studies in recent times have linked gut microbiome (GM) diversity to the pathogenesis of cancer and its role in disease progression through immune response, inflammation and metabolism modulation. This study focused on the use of network analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify the biological interaction between the gut ecosystem and its metabolites that could impact the immunotherapy response in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing second-line treatment with anti-PD1.

A spectral method for bipartizing a network and detecting a large anti-community

Relations between discrete quantities such as people, genes, or streets can be described by networks, which consist of nodes that are connected by edges. Network analysis aims to identify important nodes in a network and to uncover structural properties of a network. A network is said to be bipartite if its nodes can be subdivided into two nonempty sets such that there are no edges between nodes in the same set. It is a difficult task to determine the closest bipartite network to a given network.

VCG MECHANISM AND CENTRALITY MEASURES IN NETWORK ANALYSIS

In this work we show that some centrality measures in network analysis are exactly an application of the principles underlying the well-known Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism. We then present an example relying on a transport framework which highlights how these centrality measures à la VCG can indeed provide valuable information to fairly assess the importance of the analyzed network elements.

How to detect illegal waste shipments? The case of the international trade in polyethylene waste

The purpose of this research is to provide a methodological framework that is able to enhance our capability to detect
illegal waste shipment with particular reference to waste plastics. Based on a very large cross-sectional dataset
covering 187 countries over the period 2002-2012, our study aims to do this by using both the mirror statistics method
and the network analysis. Specifically, by using mirror statistics, we identify the existence of a set of “suspicious”

Copyright-based industry and network theory: exploring new horizons

Research into the economic contribution of copyright networks has revealed the impact that industrial groups have on financial performance, the added value created and the increased number of employees generated by this industry, whilst excluding any evaluation of the relationships that exist between the industries and sectors that operate in a copyright network.

MIENTURNET: An interactive web tool for microRNA-target enrichment and network-based analysis

Background miRNAs regulate the expression of several genes with one miRNA able to target multiple genes and with one gene able to be simultaneously targeted by more than one miRNA. Therefore, it has become indispensable to shorten the long list of miRNA-target interactions to put in the spotlight in order to gain insight into understanding the regulatory mechanism orchestrated by miRNAs in various cellular processes. A reasonable solution is certainly to prioritize miRNA-target interactions to maximize the effectiveness of the downstream analysis.

Text mining in remotely sensed phenology studies. A review on research development, main topics, and emerging issues

As an interdisciplinary field of research, phenology is developing rapidly, and the contents of phenological research have become increasingly abundant. In addition, the potentiality of remote sensing technologies has largely contributed to the growth and complexity of this discipline, in terms of the scale of analysis, techniques of data processing, and a variety of topics. As a consequence, it is increasingly di°cult for scientists to get a clear picture of remotely sensed phenology (rs+pheno) research.
