Are nutrition and physical activity associated with gut microbiota? A pilot study on a sample of healthy young adults

BACKGROUND: The literature shows that gut microbiota composition is related with health, and a lot of individual and outer factors may determine its variability. In particular, nutrition and exercise seem to influence the presence in the gut of the two major bacterial phyla of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. STUDY DESIGN: An ongoing cross-sectional investigation is aimed to explore these associations in humans.

Sustainable management of secondary raw materials from the marine food-chain. A case-study perspective

The feasibility of exploiting secondary raw materials from marine food-chains as a source of molecules of nutritional interest, to create high-value food products and to meet nutritional challenges, is described in this report. A reduction in food waste is urgent as many sectors of the food industry damage the environment by depleting resources and by generating waste that must be treated. The project herein described, deals with the recovery of natural molecules, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA) and of α-tocopherol, from fish processing by-products.

The “Elderly” Lesson in a “Stressful” Life: Italian Holistic Approach to Increase COVID-19 Prevention and Awareness

It's a frightening time due to COVID-19, but the great elderly/centenarians, apparently with more frailty, seem to have a better response to the pandemic. “The South Italy” lifestyle seems an “effective strategy” promoting the well-being embedded in a holistic solution: healthy diet, less exposure to PM10 pollution, protected environment, and moderate physical activity. The European FP7 Project RISTOMED results, since 2010, have shown that dietary intervention improved a heathy status in the elderly people.

Nutrition in dementia. a challenge for nurses

Aim. The manuscript shows the presence of eating disorders in dementia in the elderly population and the risk of malnutrition. It is highlighted that the management of this patient is difficult and generate stress in the caregiver. Highlight the main questions that the medical staff provides the best form of nutrition for patients with dementia.
Methods. The literature review and reported international guidelines analyze and propose measures to be carried into the environment of the meal, diet and encourages, as permitted, patient independence.

Nutrition in patients with unilateral neglect

Objective: To evaluate the impact of neglect on patient nutrition and nursing skills to reduce malnutrition. To determine attitude of health care professionals towards nutritional needs in patients with neglect. Methods: The purpose of this narrative literature review was to explore empiric literature that surrounds the measures to be carried into the environment of the meal, diet and encourages patient independence with neglect. This literature review to include articles from all countries and national languages (English, Spanish and Italian) that pertain to this topic.

Making a Sustainable Diet Acceptable: An Emerging Programming Model With Applications to Schools and Nursing Homes Menus

Background: Food consumption is one of the most important drivers of the relation between human well-being and Earth's ecosystems. The current production level is difficult to sustain without compromising environmental integrity or public health. This calls for a decisive change in food consumption patterns in order to improve nutrition quality while respecting biodiversity and ecosystems. This change will produce some effect only if it is also culturally acceptable, accessible, economically fair and affordable.

ENTERAL FEEDING IN POST SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT: FOLLOW CIRCADIAN RHYTMS

Introduction
The environment and the treatments during hospitalization change circadian rhythms. The administration of continuous enteral nutrition disables the physiological alternation of hunger-thirst stimuli and their satisfaction. At nighttime, our body takes a series of modifications to facilitate rest. The purpose of the study was to improve the synchronism between nutrition administration and circadian response.
Materials and methods

Early protein intake influences neonatal brain measurements in preterms: an observational study

Introduction: To limit extrauterine growth restriction, recent guidelines on nutrition of preterm neonates recommended high protein intake since the first day of life (DOL). The impact of this nutritional strategy on the brain is still controversial. We aimed to evaluate the effects of protein intake on early cerebral growth in very low birth weight newborns. Materials and Methods: We performed serial cranial ultrasound (cUS) scans at 3-7 DOL and at 28 DOL in very low birth weight newborns consecutively observed in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Nutrition in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Position Paper on Behalf of the Porto Inflammatory Bowel Disease Group of the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

Background and Aims: A growing body of evidence supports the need for detailed attention to nutrition and diet in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We aimed to define the steps in instituting dietary or nutritional management in light of the current evidence and to offer a useful and practical guide to physicians and dieticians involved in the care of pediatric IBD patients.
