The age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index as a predictor of survival in surgically treated vulvar cancer patients

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (ACCI) in predicting disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) among surgically treated patients with vulvar carcinoma. The secondary aim is to evaluate its impact as a predictor of the pattern of recurrence. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated data of patients that underwent surgical treatment for vulvar cancer from 1998 to 2016.

Update on fertility-sparing treatment in primary and recurrent endometrial cancer

Endometrial cancer is one of the most frequent female cancers in women. Around 3-14% of endometrial cancers are diagnosed in young women wishing to preserve their fertility. Severe pelvic organ prolapse treated by vaginal native tissue repair: long-term analysis of outcomes in 146 patients

Aims: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness and safety of vaginal native tissue repair (VNTR) as a surgical treatment for severe pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and, second, to evaluate the impact on the quality-of-life (QoL) and sexual function. Methods: Women with symptomatic POP (?III stage according to POP Quantification System) with or without stress urinary incontinence (SUI) underwent VNTR. The clinical stage, 3-day voiding diary, and urodynamic testing were evaluated in the preoperative and postoperative times, respectively.

Management of endometriomas

.Ovarian endometriomas affect 17 to 44% of women with endometriosis, and are often associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Treatment options include expectant management, medical and/or surgical treatment, and in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The choice of treatment depends mostly on the associated symptoms. In most cases, surgery is the preferred choice, since endometriomas do not respond to medical treatment, which may only treat associated pain.

Neurodevelopmental outcome of Italian preterm children at 1 year of corrected age by Bayley-III scales: an assessment using local norms

Background: Premature birth is often associated with neurodevelopmental difficulties throughout childhood. In
the first three years of life, the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition (Bayley-III)
constitute one of the most used tools for assessing child development. Since Bayley-III original norms are based
on United States (US) population, it remains uncertain whether their use in other countries (e.g., European) is
appropriate.
