This paper presents the final achievements of an Education project granted by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission (EC), focused in particular on three fields that are considered enablers for Smart Cities (SCs): Telecommunications and Computer Networks, IT Security, and Smart Grids (SGs). Policy makers and stakeholders in Palestine (PS) have made the decision to move towards a knowledge-based economy with the aim of providing a rapid but sustainable economic growth.

The paper presents the mid-term progress report of a project granted by the Erasmus+ Programme, focused in particular on three fields that are considered enablers for Smart Cities (SCs): Telecommunications and Computer Networks, IT Security, and Smart Grids (SGs). Policy makers and stakeholders in Palestine (PS) have made the decision to move towards a knowledge-based economy with the aim of providing a rapid but sustainable economic growth.

In 2017, during a salvage excavation carried out by the Department of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of Palestine, an Iron Age shaft tomb close to the site of Khirbet Bir el-Kharayib in Central Palestine came to light. The funerary equipment of the tomb goes within the Iron Age IIA pottery tradition. Vessels of this period primarily consist of Red Slip Ware bowls and juglets, Black Slip Ware juglets, Simple Ware jars, jugs and juglets, and Cooking Ware pots. A Bichrome Ware jug, a bronze bowl and a zoomorphic figurine complete the funerary set.

Rescue excavations in Bethlehem undertaken by the Sapienza University of Rome and the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities-Department of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage-have revealed four Bronze Age necropolises. These newly discovered sites illuminate the development of pre-Classical Bethlehem.

When after the Oslo and Madrid agreements the Palestinian National Authority was established it was also provided of a Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities – Dept. of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (MOTA-DACH). At that time, Sapienza University of Rome was chosen as ideal partner to start a new deal in the archaeology of Palestine.
