Cellular and molecular mechanisms mediated by recPrP C involved in the neuronal differentiation process of mesenchymal stem cells

Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells (hDPSCs) represent a type of adult mesenchymal stem cells that have the ability to differentiate in vitro in several lineages such as odontoblasts, osteoblasts, chondrocytes, adipocytes and neurons. In the current work, we used hDPSCs as the experimental model to study the role of recombinant prion protein 23–231 (recPrP C ) in the neuronal differentiation process, and in the signal pathway activation of ERK 1/2 and Akt.

Comparison of 99m Tc-UBI 29-41, 99m Tc-ciprofloxacin, 99m Tc-ciprofloxacin dithiocarbamate and 111In-biotin for targeting experimental staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli foreign-body infections. an ex-vivo study

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of implant-associated infection is challenging. Several radiopharmaceuticals have been described but direct comparisons are limited. Here we compared in vitro and in an animal model Tc-99m-IJIBI, Tc-99m-cipmfloxacin, (TcN)-Tc-99m-CipmCS(2) and In-111-DTPA-biotin for targeting E. coli (ATCC 25922) and S. aureus (ATCC 43335).METHODS: Stability controls were performed with the labelled radiopharmaceuticals during 6 hours in saline and serum. The in vitro binding to viable or killed bacteria was evaluated at 37 degrees C and 4 degrees C.

Relationship among body mass index, NT-proBNP, and mortality in decompensated chronic heart failure

BACKGROUND:
Obesity has been suggested to confer a survival benefit in acute heart failure. The concentrations of NT-proBNP may be reduced in patients with high body mass index (BMI).

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the relationship among BMI, NT-proBNP, and mortality risk in decompensated chronic heart failure (DCHF).

METHODS:
This was a retrospective study. We studied 1001 patients with DCHF. Hazard ratios (HR) were calculated with Cox regression analysis.
