Chiral near-field manipulation in Au-GaAs hybrid hexagonal nanowires

We demonstrate the control of enhanced chiral field distribution at the surface of hybrid metallo-dielectric nanostructures composed of self-assembled vertical hexagonal GaAs-based nanowires having three of the six sidewalls covered with Au. We show that weakly-guided modes of vertical GaAs nanowires can generate regions of high optical chirality that are further enhanced by the break of the symmetry introduced by the gold layer.

QUBIC: The Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology

The Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, QUBIC, is an innovative experiment designed to measure the polarization of the cosmic microwave back- ground and in particular the signature left therein by the inflationary expansion of the Universe. The expected signal is extremely faint; thus, extreme sensitivity and systematic control are necessary in order to attempt this measurement.

QUBIC: measuring CMB polarization from Argentina

QUBIC (Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology) is an ambitious project to measure the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which can provide unique information on the very early universe and the cosmic inflation process. The QUBIC instrument combines the extreme sensitivity of cryogenic bolometers and the accurate control of beam-forming and auto-calibration ability of interferometers.

X-band synthetic aperture radar methods

Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radars (SARs), operating at L-band and above, offer microwave observations of the Earth at very high spatial resolution in almost all-weather conditions. Nevertheless, precipitating clouds can significantly affect the signal backscattered from the ground surface in both amplitude and phase, especially at X band and beyond. This evidence has been assessed by numerous recent efforts analyzing data collected by COSMO-SkyMed (CSK) and TerraSAR-X (TSX) missions at X band.

Ultra-thin narrow-band, complementary narrow-band and dual-band metamaterial absorbers for applications in the THz regime

In this paper, ultra-thin narrow-band, complementary narrow-band, and dual-band metamaterial absorbers (MMAs), exploiting the same electric ring resonator configuration, are investigated at normal and oblique incidence for both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarizations, and with different physical properties in the THz regime. In the analysis of the ultra-thin narrow-band MMA, the limit of applicability of the transmission line model has been overcome with the introduction of a capacitance which considers the z component of the electric field.

Blurred shots. Iinvestigating the information crisis around vaccination in Italy

The article aims at exploring a case of information crisis in Italy through the lens of vaccination-related topics. Such a controversial issue, dividing public opinion and political agendas, has received diverse information coverage and public policies over time in the Italian context, whose situation appears quite unique compared with other countries because of a strong media spectacularization and politicization of the topic.
