The volume edits papers on "Dynamics and Policies of Prejudice from the Eighteenth to the Twenty-first Century", collecting contributions in parts devoted to "The Impact of Modernization: Old and New Bias in the Age of Transition", "The Anti-Semitic Disease: From Prejudice to Annihilation", "Shaping Identities and National Consciousness", "Ethnic and Religious Conflicts", "Balkanization", "The Russian Neighbour", "Multidisciplinary Perspectives", "A Question of Gender" and "Dealing with Prejudice: Responses and Analysis of Discrimination".

Thinking intelligently to promote a democratic society

The present paper concerns the topics of prejudice and stereotype and the scientific and reflective attitude as a useful strategy for their reduction. The topic is particularly important because it is closely related to the issue of social inclusion and respect for minorities: in fact, prejudice and stereotypes are phenomena underlying discrimination attitudes and social exclusion processes.

Assessing prejudice toward two-father parenting and two-mother parenting: The beliefs on same-sex parenting scale

This article describes two interrelated studies that investigated beliefs and stereotypes on two-father parenting and two-mother parenting through the development and validation of the Beliefs on Same-Sex Parenting (BOSSP) scale. The BOSSP captures two beliefs: (1) prejudices toward same-sex couples’ inherent inability to parent and (2) concerns about same-sex parenting that are not necessarily related to homonegativity.

Italian Adaptation and Psychometric Properties of the Prejudice Against Immigrants Scale (PAIS): Assessment of Validity, Reliability, and Measure Invariance

The aim of the current study was to adapt and validate the Prejudice Against Immigrants Scale (PAIS) in the Italian context, based on the Prejudice Against Asylum Seekers Scale by Anderson (2018). The validity, reliability, and measurement invariance across gender, age, and educational levels of the scale were assessed through three sources, which involved 306 Italian individuals (Nmen = 151, 49.3%) between 18 and 60 years old.

Electrophysiological markers of prejudice related to sexual gender

Previous studies have shown that Event-related potentials (ERPs) are sensitive to violations of gender-based stereotypes. In the present investigation, we used ERPs to measure the detection of a discrepancy between gender-based occupational stereotypes and written material presented to fifteen Italian viewers in a completely implicit task. No awareness or judgment about stereotypes was required, no decision had to be made on sentence acceptability or congruence, and no prime words related to gender were presented (which might reveal the matter of the investigation).
