Near InfraRed-based hyperspectral imaging approach for secondary raw materials processing in solid waste sector

In secondary raw materials and industrial recycling sectors there is the need of solving quality control issues. The development and deployment of an effective, fast and robust sensing architecture able to detect, characterize and sort solid waste products is of primary importance. Near InfraRed (NIR) based HyperSpectral Imaging (HSI) techniques to detect materials to recycle and/or solid waste products to process represents an interesting solution to address quality control issues in these sectors.

Behind the scenes. Introduction to the human activities in the Iron Gates region. Preliminary use-wear analysis of chipped stone artefacts from Lepenski Vir and Padina (Serbia)

For decades, a closed eco-niche like Iron Gates in Eastern Serbia enabled specialists to explore the transition to a sedentary life, with an exceptional record of human occupation during the Late Glacial and Early Holocene. Following the series of published analysis from the architecture to the prehistoric diet of the Iron Gates inhabitants, our research aims to present the newest results regarding the use-wear analysis of chipped stone artefacts from Lepenski Vir and Padina site with a broader focus on the transition from Mesolithic to Neolithic in this region.

Going to the source: new perspectives in the study of the Canaanean blade technology from Iraqi Kurdistan

This paper presents a preliminary overview of the outstanding evidence of chert mining and specialised lithic workshops found on the southern slopes of the Jebel Zawa, in the Dohuk Governorate, northern Iraqi Kurdistan. Technical features observed on lithic materials - such as cores and waste products – led to the identification of this mining complex as the source of raw materials used to produce the large standardised blades known in the literature as ‘Canaanean’.
