Are role and gender related to sexual function and satisfaction in men and women practicing BDSM?

Background: Published studies show good psychological health of people involved in bondage-discipline, dominance-submission, and sadism-masochism (BDSM) activities; nevertheless, there are few studies on characteristics related to gender, role in the BDSM scene, sexual functioning, and satisfaction among BDSM practitioners. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore gender and role differences, prevalence of sexual complaints, related distress, and sexual satisfaction in BDSM participants compared with the general population.

Antimüllerian hormone is reduced in the presence of ovarian endometriomas: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: To evaluate if the presence of endometriomas impacts on the ovarian reserve as evaluated with antimüllerian hormone (AMH). Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Setting: Not applicable. Patient(s): Patients with unoperated endometriomas versus controls without endometriomas. Intervention(s): Electronic databases searched up to June 2017 to identify articles evaluating AMH levels in patients with unoperated endometriomas versus controls without endometriomas.

HLA-DQB1∗0201 phenotype and severe primary RhD immunization

Purpose of Investigation: Although post-delivery administration of anti-D immunoglobulin (anti-D Ig) and antenatal prophylaxis the residual prevalence of RH alloimmunization is due to an incomplete application of the guidelines or to clinical conditions that foster mechanisms of immunization. Materials and Methods: The authors report a case of devastating RhD alloimmunization in a secundipara, group 0 Rh negative, without potentially immunizing events. Results: Anti-D antibodies were screened at 6/2 and at 13/4 weeks and were found negative.

Evaluation of intralesional injection of hyaluronic acid compared with verapamil in Peyronie's disease: preliminary results from a prospective, double-blinded, randomized study

Several intralesional therapeutic protocols have been proposed for the treatment of Peyronie's disease. Among all, hyaluronic acid (HA) and verapamil have been differently tested. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of intralesional verapamil (ILVI) compared with intralesional HA in patients with early onset of Peyronie's disease (PD). This is a multi-centre prospective double-arm, randomized, double-blinded study comparing ILVI vs. intralesional HA after 12-weeks. Sexually active men, older than 18 years and affected by the acute phase of PD were eligible for this study.

Management of endometriomas

.Ovarian endometriomas affect 17 to 44% of women with endometriosis, and are often associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Treatment options include expectant management, medical and/or surgical treatment, and in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The choice of treatment depends mostly on the associated symptoms. In most cases, surgery is the preferred choice, since endometriomas do not respond to medical treatment, which may only treat associated pain.

Distal corporal anchoring stitch: a technique to address distal corporal crossovers and impending lateral extrusions of a penile prosthesis

Background: Unidentified distal crossovers, delayed distal crossovers, and impending lateral extrusion are complications
of penile prosthesis implant insertion but are not as common as prosthesis infection or mechanical failure.
Aim: To evaluate results of a surgical technique, the distal corporal anchoring stitch, that addresses fixation of the
penile prosthesis in patients with these complications.
Methods: A lateral sub-coronal incision is used on the side where the crossover or laterally extruding cylinder

Cytological and molecular aspects of the ageing sperm

STUDY QUESTION Is ageing associated with a decline in semen quality and molecular changes to human sperm? SUMMARY ANSWER Semen quality declines with advancing age and characteristic molecular changes take place during the ageing process, including increased sperm DNA damage, altered sperm protamination and altered seminal plasma miRNA profile. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY During ageing, the reproductive system is exposed to physiological changes and potentially damaging factors that may impair testicular function.

Smoke, alcohol and drug addiction and male fertility

In recent decades, the decline in human fertility has become increasingly more worrying: while therapeutic interventions might help, they are vexing for the couple and often burdened with high failure rates and costs. Prevention is the most successful approach to fertility disorders in males and females alike. We performed a literature review on three of the most common unhealthy habits - tobacco, alcohol and drug addiction - and their reported effects on male fertility.
