Occurrence of Anisakis and Hysterothylacium nematodes in Atlantic chub mackerels from Libyan coasts

The occurrence of zoonotic parasitic nematodes in Atlantic chub mackerels (Scomber colias syn. Scomber japonicus) from Libyan waters was investigated, using epizootiological estimations and molecular specific characterization of larvae. Nematodes belonging to Anisakis spp., the main etiological agent of anisakiasis in Mediterranean waters, and to Hysterothylacium spp. so far considered not pathogenic to humans, were detected.

Periodic autoregressive models with multiple structural changes by genetic algorithms

We present a model and a computational procedure for dealing with seasonality and regime changes in time series. In this work we are interested in time series which in addition to trend display seasonality in mean, in autocorrelation and in variance. These type of series appears in many areas, including hydrology, meteorology, economics and finance. The seasonality is accounted for by subset PAR modelling, for which each season follows a possibly different Autoregressive model.

Night Eating Syndrome, circadian rhythms and seasonality. A study in a population of Italian university students

PURPOSE:
The aim of this research was to assess the prevalence of Night Eating Syndrome (NES) in a university student population and to clear up the relationship between NES, depression and chronotype. The relation between NES and seasonality was also investigated.

1. As predator and parasitoid insects depend on multiple resources for adult feeding and reproduction, environmental heterogeneity (EH) is expected to be a key driver of their species diversity. In temperate regions, the benefits of EH are expected to vary across spatial scales and seasons, depending on species life-history traits and temporal fluctuations in resources. 2. We tested the importance of EH at multiple spatial scales on diversity and abundance of predator and parasitoid insects, and whether its effects changed across seasons.

Diachronic adjustments of functional traits scaling relationships to track environmental changes. Revisiting Cistus species leaf cohort classification

Leaf functional traits and their relationships can differ between leaf flushes, particularly for species characterized by an extended growing season such as Mediterranean ones. Among them, Cistus spp. are generally reported to display two different leaf cohorts (i.e. summer and winter leaves) during the same growing season. We tested the generality of such leaf cohort classification by analyzing the diachronic adjustments of relationships between different leaf functional traits in 3 Cistus spp.
