DANGER: A drones aided network for guiding emergency and rescue operations

Has now become more important than ever to guarantee an always present connectivity to users, especially in emergency scenarios. However, in case of a disaster, network infrastructures are often damaged, with consequent connectivity disruption, isolating users when are more in need for information and help. Drones may supply with a recovery network, thanks to their capabilities to provide network connectivity on the fly. However, users typically need special devices or applications to reach these networks, reducing their applicability and adoption.

A framework to enhance the user experience of car mobile applications

We describe the rationale, the design and development of an iOS framework to enhance the end user experience of car-related apps. The car framework fuses the smartphone sensors' raw data to detect user behaviour and car events, and provides relevant and timely information that an app can use to relief the user from manually inputting data and to foster implicit interaction. Thus, app developers can focus on user needs and UX rather than on code complexity. We show how detected events map common needs of car-related apps.

Sexual health in your hands. How the smartphone apps can improve your sexual wellbeing?

In recent years, the numbers of smartphone users has surged across the world and downloads of smartphone apps have grown significantly, with smartphone usage increased to 73% among American adolescents since 2013. The main goal of this article is to present a review of the literature focusing the use of smartphone applications to improve sexual health. Using a smartphone application to provide sexual health information, especially to younger populations, might aid in increasing awareness of sexual risk behaviors before sexual debut.

Smartphone distraction during nursing care: Systematic literature review

Aim: To investigate the impact of smartphone distraction on the quality and safety of care provided by the nursing population during work. Background: About 80% of nurses use the smartphone in the workplace both for personal purposes and as a useful support to improve the quality of care. Distraction from smartphones during care is a phenomenon that should be known and managed within each health service. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was conducted using the PRISMA methodology.

Newspaper apps for tablets and smartphones in different media systems: A comparative analysis

This article proposes a comparative analysis of the newspaper apps developed for tablets and smartphones within different media systems. It studies the multimediality, interactivity and commercialization models adopted by newspaper publishers and journalists for these apps. The theoretical framework embraces two main topics: the media system models, starting from Hallin and Mancini’s proposal, and the characteristics of the media

Performance analysis of GPS+Galileo smartphone raw measurements

The main objective of this work is to investigate on precise positioning with a GPS and Galileo enabled chipset embedded in a smartphone. Sapienza research team, as member of the GSA GNSS Raw Measurements Task Force, with contribution by Politecnico di Milano, is investigating the area of real time precise positioning with single frequency, focusing on the benefits of multi-constellation GNSS and raw data quality provided by a smartphone. The analysis is carried out with code- and carrier-based algorithms in different scenarios.

The Variometric Approach Applied to the Carrier-Phases of a Multi-Constellation Chipset for Smartphone and LBS Applications

In the past, the possibility to access to dual frequency GNSS was achievable only with expensive and high quality receivers, in environment and conditions that are different from the everyday lifestyle. The use of dual-frequency is relevant because it allows increasing the accuracy and the reliability on the user’s position estimation. The technological evolution has brought today the possibility to extend the advantages of the high accuracy positioning to a larger number of users and applications.
