Assessing knowledge, attitude, and practice of healthcare personnel regarding biomedical waste management: a systematic review of available tools

Biomedical waste (BMW) management is an important commitment of hospitals both in terms of the possible infectious risk and from the financial point of view. Monitoring the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of healthcare professionals on this topic represents a source of information on BMW management. The aim of this study is to perform a systematic review to identify the reliable and valid tools able to assess the KAP of professionals in healthcare centers to manage BMW.

Unraveling multiple thermotectonic events accommodated by crustal-scale faults in Northern Iberia, Spain. Insights from K-Ar dating of clay gouges

Large-scale faults in the continental crust are significant features that control the evolution of sedimentary basins and intraplate mountain chains. Deciphering their evolution is a significant task because faults slip and reactivate in a variety of geological settings. In this work, clay gouges of two major orogen-scale, long-lived faults in northern Iberia, the Rio Grio and Valles-Penedes Faults, were investigated by X-ray diffraction and K-Ar isotopic analysis.

Introduction: Population ageing: convergences and uncertainties in the Mediterranean

The steady increase in the number of elderly people in the population, induced by factors that embody human progress (reduced mortality, tendential improvement in living standards and lifestyles, etc.) has become over the years an important issue in the organisation of contemporary societies, as regards retirement or health, for example. With different intensities and with different historical calendars, all societies are concerned by this.

N.D. and M.T. v Spain. A conservative turn in the ECTHR immigration cases?

The article concerns the recent ECtHR judgment of N.D. and M.T. v Spain, where the Court dealt with push back practices carried out by the Spanish border police at its territorial border with Morocco, namely Melilla. The judgment is highly relevant as the Court deals with the matter for the first time. Moreover, the judgment seems to represent a turning point for the Court's case-law on collective expulsion, as the Court applies a somehow conservative reasoning once faced with judging the State for a violation of the Convention.

Urban morphology and design. Joint research perspectives and methodological comparison: Italy, Spain

The Blue Koran. A contribution to the debate on its possible origin and date

This article reconsiders the origin, both geographical and cultural, of the Blue Koran and suggests a date and place for its production. Through a codicological comparison with a Western manuscript, the Bible of Danila, in which a deep blue parchment and dry-point ruling are employed, it seems possible to establish a link between this Latin precedent and the Blue Koran. A further comparison with a blue manuscript, in Syriac, on paper, provides a parallel for the use of a dyed/coloured writing material.

Multiplex PCR for detection of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance determinants, mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3, mcr-4 and mcr-5 for surveillance purposes

Background and aim: Plasmid-mediated colistin resistance mechanisms have been identified worldwide in the past years. A multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol for detection of all currently known transferable colistin resistance genes (mcr-1 to mcr-5, and variants) in Enterobacteriaceae was developed for surveillance or research purposes. Methods: We designed four new primer pairs to amplify mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3 and mcr-4 gene products and used the originally described primers for mcr-5 to obtain a stepwise separation of ca 200 bp between ampli-cons.
