Insights into the phytochemistry of the cuban endemic medicinal plant phyllanthus orbicularis: fideloside, a novel bioactive 8-c-glycosyl 2,3-dihydroflavonol

Phyllanthus orbicularis (Phyllanthaceae) is an endemic evergreen tropical plant of Cuba that grows in the western part of the island and is used in traditional medicine as an infusion. The aqueous extract of this plant presents a wide range of pharmacological activitiessuch as antimutagenic, antioxidant and antiviral effects.

Influence of lipid composition on the ability of liposome loaded voacamine to improve the reversion of doxorubicin resistant osteosarcoma cells

The plant alkaloid voacamine (VOA) displays many interesting pharmacological activities thus, considering its scarce solubility in water, its encapsulation into liposome formulations for its delivery is an important goal. Different cationic liposome formulations containing a phospholipid, cholesterol and one of two diasteromeric cationic surfactants resulted able to maintain a stable transmembrane difference in ammonium sulfate concentration and/or pH gradient and to accumulate VOA in their internal aqueous bulk.

Synthesis of bromoundecyl resorc[4]arenes and applications of the cone stereoisomer as selector for liquid chromatography

As an extension of our studies on the multifaceted properties of C-alkylated resorc[4]arenes, we planned to immobilize on a solid support resorc[4]arenes with C11-long side chains in the lower rim. To this purpose, we synthesized two conformationally diverse resorc[4]arenes containing a bromoundecyl moiety in the four axial pendants. The cone stereoisomer 6a (30% yield) was selected for the reaction with an aminopropylated silica gel (APSG) obtained from spherical Kromasil Si 100, 5 μm particles, to give the corresponding immobilized SP-C11-resorc[4]arene system.
