Stomach Neoplasms

Combined analysis of intragastric malignant exfoliation and Ca 72.4 concentration in stomach adenocarcinoma. The "GL1 Ca 72.4" parameter

Differently from other digestive malignancies, gastric cancer (GC) pathobiology is still little known and understood. Recently, cytopathology and molecular biology on gastric juice/gastric lavage (GJ/GL) of GC patients have provided novel and interesting results in terms of screening, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. However, entertaining cytologic examination and molecular test as a unified solo-run test is previously unreported. Our aim was to assess the new parameter "GL Ca 72.4" for GC patients.

Impact of nutritional status on gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NET) aggressiveness

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare neoplasms mostly originating from the gastroenteropancreatic tract (GEP-NETs). Data regarding nutritional status in GEP-NET patients are limited. The aim of the study was to investigate the nutritional status and adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MD) in GEP-NET patients and to correlate them with tumor aggressiveness. A cross-sectional case-control observational study was conducted enrolling 83 patients with well-differentiated G1/G2 GEP-NETs after resection, as well as 83 healthy subjects, age, sex and body mass index-matched.

Tumour type and size are prognostic factors in gastric neuroendocrine neoplasia: A multicentre retrospective study

Background: Gastric neuroendocrine neoplasias (gNEN) are defined as type I if associated with atrophic body gastritis and type III when tumour is sporadic. This classification, together with grading and size, plays a crucial prognostic role. Nevertheless, the impact of these features on clinical outcome is not clear. Aim: To identify factors predicting poor outcome. Patients and methods: Analysis of type I and type III gNEN. A composite endpoint was defined if tumour-related death or metastases or angioinvasion were observed.
