Infection of prosthetic patches after femoral endarterectomy. An unreported complication

Background: The femoral prosthetic patch is a surgical procedure frequently used to treat atherosclerotic lesions involving femoral artery bifurcation. Even though it is an easy to perform procedure, surgical management of complications, first of all graft infection, may be challenging, with a high morbidity and mortality risk for patients. We report our experience on surgical treatment of femoral patch infections.

“A systematic analysis highlighting deficiencies in reported outcomes for patients with stage IV colorectal cancer undergoing palliative resection of the primary tumor” by DP Harji et al

Vengono analizzate le problematiche nel riportare i dati sulla aspettativa di vita in pazienti con tumore del colon retto Stage IV

Histotype influences emergency presentation and prognosis in colon cancer surgery

Aim: To investigate whether differences in histotype in colon cancer correlate with clinical presentation and if they might influence oncological outcomes and survival. Methods: Data regarding colon cancer patients operated both electively or in emergency between 2009 and 2014 were retrospectively collected from a prospectively maintained database and analyzed for the purpose of this study. Rectal cancer was excluded from this analysis.

Impact of surgery on quality of life in Crohn's disease: short- and mid-term follow-up

Active Crohn's disease has a substantial impact on Quality of Life (QoL). Medical management could be associated to side effects, hospitalization, long treatment period and requires patient's compliance, impacting QoL. Ileocecal resection (ICR) is often required, open or laparoscopic. Aim of the study was to assess Health-Related (HR) QoL changes following ICR, and to identify factors impacting on QoL in the short and mid-term. From a single institution, we created a prospective database of patients undergoing ICR from 01/2009 to 12/2015.

From the "?fat capsule" to the "fat belt". Limiting protective lipofilling on irradiated expanders for breast reconstruction to selective key areas

BACKGROUND:
The number of patients undergoing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction with tissue expanders followed by post-mastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) is exponentially increasing. To reduce the rate of complications, in 2011, the senior author of this manuscript described the use of protective lipofilling in patients undergoing unplanned PMRT to the expander with a specific protocol aiming to decrease the rate of complications.

Single center experience with laparoscopic adrenalectomy on a large clinical series

Background: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is considered the gold standard technique for the treatment of benign small and medium size adrenal masses (<6 cm), due to low morbidity rate, short hospitalization and patient rapid recovery. The aim of our study is to analyse the feasibility and efficiency of this surgical approach in a broad spectrum of adrenal gland pathologies.
