Surgical management of acute retrograde peri-implantitis: a review of current literature

Aims: Periapical implant lesions, also named apical peri-implantitis or retrograde peri-implantitis, were described since 1992, and are characterized by progressive bone loss at the periapex of the implant. Several case reports have suggested these lesions are possible causes for early implant failure. The aim of this article was to review the Literature to identify current knowledge on surgical management of acute retrograde peri-implantitis.

Head and neck osteosarcoma—the ongoing challenge about reconstruction and dental rehabilitation

Head and Neck osteosarcoma is an uncommon disease. Hitherto, the treatment is surgical resection and survival is influenced by the presence of free margins. However, the dimension of the resection may represent a hurdle for an adequate Quality of Life (QOL). Maxillofacial district is a narrow space where the function, esthetics and patient’s relational skills fit together like the gears of a clock.

Open surgery for aneurysms of the splenic artery at the hilum of the spleen. Report of three cases

Introduction: Aneurysms of the splenic artery (SAA) located at the hilum of the spleen are not well fit for endovascular or laparoscopic treatment. Open surgery may still be the best option of treatment. Presentation of cases: We report the cases of 3 female patients of a mean age of 59 years (range, 45–68 years) with a hilar (n = 2) or parahilar (n = 1) SAA undergoing successful open surgical resection, through a short left subcostal access. Recovery was uneventful and mean, postoperative length of stay was 4 days (range, 3–5 days).

Management of endometriomas

.Ovarian endometriomas affect 17 to 44% of women with endometriosis, and are often associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Treatment options include expectant management, medical and/or surgical treatment, and in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The choice of treatment depends mostly on the associated symptoms. In most cases, surgery is the preferred choice, since endometriomas do not respond to medical treatment, which may only treat associated pain.

Case report. A rare case of giant basal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma

The presence of two several skin lesions in the same patient is a rare occurrence in dermatological findings. The associations of malignant melanoma (MM) and giant basal cell carcinoma (BCC) within the same patient have only been described in few cases in the literature.1,6 Is there a common genetic origin? However, until now the pathogenesis of collision tumors existing of MM and BCC remains unclear. We, therefore, report a case of association of MM and BCC in the same patient.
