The history of membranes is one of adaptation, from the development in living organisms to man-made versions, with a great variety of uses in temporary design: clothing, building, packaging, etc.

With reference to the current research of the LaMA - DiAP, Sapienza University of Rome, the aim of this paper is to present a system of design strategies that endeavor to create more environmentally and socially sustainable architecture.
