The post-Jaramillo persistence of Sus strozzii (Suidae, Mammalia) in Europe. New evidence from the Vallparadís section (NE Iberian Peninsula) and other coeval sites

The Vallparadís composite section (VCS) includes the nearby paleontological sites of Cal Guardiola and Vallparadís Estació (Vallès-Penedès Basin, northeastern Iberian Peninsula). The section spans from before the Jaramillo subchron to the early Middle Pleistocene (ca. 1.2–0.6 Ma). In this study, we describe the suid record from VCS and we review those from several other European sites, in order to refine the taxonomic identity and chronostratigraphic range of Quaternary suids in Europe.

The short wavelength instrument for the polarization explorer balloon-borne experiment: Polarization modulation issues

In this paper we investigate the impact of using a polarization modulator in The Short Wavelength Instrument for the Polarization Explorer (SWIPE) of the large scale polarization explorer (LSPE). The experiment is optimized to measure the linear polarization of the cosmic microwave background at large angular scales during a circumpolar long-duration stratospheric balloon mission, and uses multimode bolometers cooled to.3 K. The 330 detectors cover three bands at 140, 220, and 240 GHz.

The monophyly of the Glaurocarini (Diptera: Tachinidae: Tachininae) with the description of a new species of Semisuturia from Australia

The Glaurocarini are a small Old World tribe of tachinids belonging to the subfamily Tachininae. Two genera are currently recognized, Glaurocara Thomson with 16 species and Semisuturia Malloch with eight species. In this study we describe Semisuturia moffattensis Inclán, O'Hara, Stireman & Cerretti sp. n. from Queensland and New South Wales and compare it with congeners as well as other glaurocarines. The new species is readily identifiable among world glaurocarines by having a row of setae on lower 2/3 of facial ridge.

Integrative taxonomy of the Amazonian red-sided opossum Monodelphis glirina (J.A. Wagner, 1842) (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae)

New records for Monodelphis glirina, a short-tailed opossum distributed throughout the Amazon region, from Humaitá, Amazonas state, and Confresa, Mato Grosso state, prompted new insights into the geographic distribution and genetic diversity of this species. One of the records extends the species range circa 350 km beyond the previous southeastern limit. Voucher specimens had their identification confirmed by morphological comparison with the holotype and corroborated by molecular data (mitochondrial gene Cytochrome b).

Systematic design of THz leaky-wave antennas based on homogenized metasurfaces

In this paper, a systematic design of Fabry-Perot cavity antennas based on leaky waves is proposed in the THz range. The use of different topologies for the synthesis of homogenized metasurfaces shows that a specific fishnetlike unit cell is particularly suitable for the design of efficient THz radiating devices. Accurate full-wave simulations highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed geometries, thoroughly considering the bounds dictated by technological constraints and the homogenization limit as well.

An assessment of Raphitoma and allied genera (Neogastropoda: Raphitomidae)

The systematics of several Eastern Atlantic conoidean species, traditionally ascribed to the genus RaphitomaBellardi, 1847, are revised on the basis of DNA sequence data from three gene regions (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, 16S rRNA and 12S rRNA). We assign genus ranking to three major lineages (Raphitoma, CyrilliaKobelt, 1905 and LeufroyiaMonterosato, 1884) and suggest that two West African species belong in the subgenus Daphnella (Paradaphne) Laseron, 1954.

A new method for quantifying the phylogenetic redundancy of biological communities

The increasing use of phylogenetic methods in community ecology recognizes that accumulated evolutionary differences
among species mirror, to some extent, ecological processes. The scope of this work is thus to propose a new method for the
