Un trauma alla fine del secolo. Osservazioni sulle prime raccolte poetiche di Vassilis Amanatidis

The paper outlines the work of the poet, prose writer and performer Vassilis Amanatidis (1970-), focuses on his first two poetry books Υπνωτήριο, 1999 and Σπίτι από πάγο όλο, 2001) and attempts to highlight some of their common characteristics. The analysis of some of the two collections’ texts reveals a very strong poetic voice that, at the turn of the century, creates a poetic oeuvre in which the concept of ‘trauma’ seems to have played a leading role in both the private and the collective experience.

The role of grade of injury in non-operative management of blunt hepatic and splenic trauma. Case series from a multicenter experience

This retrospective study shows the results of a 2 years application of a clinical pathway concerning the indications to NOM based on the patient's hemodynamic answer instead of on the injury grade of the lesions. We conducted a retrospective study applied on a patient's cohort, admitted in "Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti of Ancona" and in the Digestive and Emergency Surgery Department of the Santa Maria of Terni hospital between September 2015 and December 2017, all affected by blunt abdominal trauma, involving liver, spleen or both of them managed conservatively.

Odontoid screw placement for Anderson type II odontoid fractures. how do duration from injury to surgery and clinical and radiological factors influence the union rate? A multicenter retrospective study

Anderson type II odontoid fractures are severe conditions, mostly affecting elderly people (≥ 70 years old). Surgery can be performed as a primary treatment or in cases of failed conservative management. This study aimed to investigate how duration from injury to surgery, as well as clinical, radiological, and surgical risk factors, may influence the union rate after anterior odontoid screw placement for Anderson type II odontoid fractures.

Sex-divergent long-term effects of single prolonged stress in adult rats

Single prolonged stress (SPS) is an experimental model that recapitulates in rodents some of the core symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although women have a two-fold greater risk to develop PTSD, most preclinical studies have been carried out in males. Furthermore, the long-term effects of behavioral alterations induced by SPS have been rarely investigated. Here, we evaluated the long-term effects of SPS on PTSD-relevant behavioral domains in rats and whether these effects were sex-dependent.

ANIACARES: Presentation of a case study on a model of early psychological intervention for road accidents victims

Road crashes are a major social emergency in Europe. In addition to the enormous social costs, they often result in severe psychological distress both for the individuals directly involved and their loved ones. In Italy, no specific psychological first aid and rehabilitation program exists for road crashes victims. For this purpo- se, ANIACARES, a scientifically grounded first-aid program specifically designed for road accident victims, was developed. The case study below is reported to better describe the activities and the psychological techniques used by the ANIACARES psychologists.

Inflammatory biomarkers, vascular procedures of lower limbs, and wound healing

Abnormal, persistent inflammation after bypass surgery could prevent healing of an ischaemic foot lesion. In 37 patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) (Rutherford Grade III Category 5) who underwent infrapopliteal vein graft and midfoot amputation, plasma levels of fibrinogen, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and matrix metalloproteinase-2 and -9 (MMP-2 and MMP-9) were determined preoperatively and during the follow up.
