Diet and Chemotherapy: The Effects of Fasting and Ketogenic Diet on Cancer Treatment

Introduction: Diet may influence various aspects of human health. In fact, it is well known that diet can favour or not the development of various human pathologies, like diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolaemia. Interestingly, diet has an influence in cancer development too (e.g., this relation has been studied for pancreatic, colonic, gastric, and breast cancers). Between the mechanisms that could explain this relation, there is epigenetic.

NUT midline carcinoma: Current concepts and future perspectives of a novel tumour entity

NMC is a recently recognized cancer type hallmarked by chromosomal translocation involving the NUT gene, a catastrophic event leading to fusion oncoprotein responsible for malignant transformation and tumor progression. The aggressiveness of disease together with a poor response to conventional treatment make NMC one of the most lethal cancer. Moreover, although until recently NMC has been poorly understood and largely neglected, the number of reported cases is steadily rising.

Downregulation of peripheral PTGS2/COX-2 in response to valproate treatment in patients with epilepsy

Antiepileptic drug therapy has significant inter-patient variability in response towards it. The current study aims to understand this variability at the molecular level using microarray-based analysis of peripheral blood gene expression profiles of patients receiving valproate (VA) monotherapy. Only 10 unique genes were found to be differentially expressed in VA responders (n = 15) and 6 genes in the non-responders (n = 8) (fold-change >2, p < 0.05). PTGS2 which encodes cyclooxygenase-2, COX-2, showed downregulation in the responders compared to the non-responders.

Longterm safety and efficacy of adalimumab and infliximab for uveitis associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Abstract
OBJECTIVE:

Anti-TNF-α agents have significantly changed the management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). We evaluated the safety and efficacy of adalimumab (ADA) and infliximab (IFX) for the treatment of JIA-associated uveitis in patients treated for ≥ 2 years.
METHODS:

Ursodeoxycholic acid therapy in pediatric primary sclerosing cholangitis: predictors of gamma glutamyltransferase normalization and favorable clinical course

OBJECTIVE: To investigate patient factors predictive of gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) normalization following ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) therapy in children with primary sclerosing cholangitis.

Rationale and study design of intravenous loop diuretic administration in acute heart failure. DIUR-AHF

Aims: Although loop diuretics are the most commonly used drugs in acute heart failure (AHF) treatment, their short-term and long-term effects are relatively unknown. The significance of worsening renal function occurrence during intravenous treatment is not clear enough. This trial aims to clarify all these features and contemplate whether continuous infusion is better than an intermittent strategy in terms of decongestion efficacy, diuretic efficiency, renal function, and long-term prognosis.

Reply to Zhang et al.: Commentary interventions for sleep problems during pregnancy

The first point highlighted by Tang et al. is about our search strategy. Particularly, the authors demonstrate concerns on searching the literature only through PubMed. We totally agree with this concern, but we have to point out that this is not the case of our systematic review. We performed our systematic research in “Pubmed”, “PsycINFO” and “MEDLINE” databases. Cochrane Collaboration Guidelines for searching literature [1] were followed. Consistently, several search strategies were used in addition to the standard literature databases.

Interventions for sleep problems during pregnancy: A systematic review.

Sleep problems during pregnancy are prevalent and could be linked to negative outcomes during pregnancy or post-partum. However, these complaints are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. This review aimed to systematically assess the effectiveness of different interventions to ameliorate poor sleep quality and insomnia during pregnancy.

Atopic dermatitis

Abstract. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common in ammatory skin disease, clinically characterized by recur- rent eczematous lesions and intense itching, leading to excoriations and susceptibility to cutaneous infections. Although it is considered a pediatric disorder, mainly starting in infancy, it is also very common in adults.
