Uterus preserving prolapse repair. How long does it last?

Background: The preservation of the uterus has an important role in the pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery. Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the long-term anatomical and functional outcomes of abdominal hysterosacropexy. Methods: Prospective study. A series of women who underwent open abdominal hysterosacropexy for high-stage POP with a minimum 75-month follow-up were included. Results: Data on 51 patients were included. Median follow-up was 136.7 months (range 75.8-258 months). Apical prolapse cure rate was 100%.

Colposcopic patterns of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia. A study from the Italian Society of Colposcopy and Cervico-Vaginal Pathology

The aim of this study was to evaluate the colposcopic patterns observed in women with a histopathological diagnosis of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN). The medical charts and the colposcopy records of women diagnosed with VaIN from January 1995 to December 2013 were analysed in a multicentre retrospective case series. The abnormal colposcopic patterns observed in women with VaIN1, VaIN2 and VaIN3 were compared. The vascular patterns and micropapillary pattern were considered separately.

Structural variations of vaginal and endometrial microbiota. Hints on female infertility

Microbiota are microorganismal communities colonizing human tissues exposed to the external environment, including the urogenital tract. The bacterial composition of the vaginal microbiota has been established and is partially related to obstetric outcome, while the uterine microbiota, considered to be a sterile environment for years, is now the focus of more extensive studies and debates. The characterization of the microbiota contained in the reproductive tract (RT) of asymptomatic and infertile women, could define a specific RT microbiota associated with implantation failure.
