Modeling the Near-field Ionospheric Disturbances During Earthquakes

We present the latest development of the Wave Perturbation-Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model (WP-GITM), a three- dimensional physics-based numerical model for seismic/tsunami-ionosphere coupling via atmospheric acoustic-gravity waves. WP-GITM was previously applied to simulate the ionospheric perturbations resulted from the epicentral crustal movement by assuming spherical acoustic-gravity waves originated from a point source, which was specified by the seismic measurement at a single location nearby the epicenter.
