This project takes focus on the implementation of a process innovation. The innovation will ensure that important results are achieved in line with the goals of sustainable development. The study will be applied to a glass packaging manufacturer, which will implement an LCA system in the current production cycle. In the early phase, we will look at production technology and we will see where it is possible to apply a process innovation to achieve positive results which respect the sustainable development. An economic feasibility study will be carried out to check the reduction in energy consumption.
Innovation will cover the evolution of a standardized product, so this would be an original solution for the company. In fact, currently the end-port melting furnaces on the market do not have the characteristic of inhaling hot exhaust air. Research innovation will consist in the implementation of a hottest air suction system that will save methane because in this way the air to be fed into the combustion chamber of the furnace will enter a higher temperature and you can use less methane to bring the air to the desired temperature. Research will evaluate the sustainability of this implementation through the following:
- Economics: Cost savings of fuel to be purchased;
- Environmental: Emitting less carbon dioxide (CO2);
- Social: Improving the corporate image of the nearby community.
