Look at the bright (nature) side: Improving body image and associated protective factors and reducing body image threats with the Nature for Body Image (NBI) project
By involving researchers from multiple sites across Italy, the Nature for Body Image (NBI) project aims to investigate the efficacy of different forms of nature exposure (i.e., VR and outdoor nature exposure) in enhancing positive body image and related protective factors (i.e., intuitive eating, self-compassion) and in reducing body image threats (i.e., physical appearance comparisons on social media, cosmetic surgery acceptance) in different groups (i.e., general population, individuals at high risk for BIDs). Furthermore, the project investigates the long-term effects of nature exposure in individuals at high risk for BIDs.
The NBI project pursues three main goals:
-
Contributing to the availability of valid and reliable self-report questionnaires to assess nature exposure in the Italian context;
-
Investigating the efficacy of different forms of nature exposure in improving positive body image, strengthening protective factors, and reducing body image threats;
-
Testing the effects of a nature exposure intervention on body image in both general and clinical populations.
