The information provided in Arabic and Persian sources with regard to the city of Istakhr in the Islamic era mainly concerns exterior details of the city as a site of clashes and passage, rather than a history of the city’s development. The resulting fragmentary portrait is that of a city that brought about a strong resistance to foreign conquest, in a cycle of various rebellions, until its apparent final destruction in the 11th century.
