Landfill monitoring requires knowledge of the landfill body's volumetric characteristics at frequent time intervals. In addition to this three-dimensional information, other information may also be useful, such as surface temperature, which may be influenced by the chemical, physical and geotechnical processes inherent in the development of the landfill itself. On the other hand, the logistical and environmental conditions normally encountered at such sites make it difficult to use traditional geomatic techniques. The use of drones has several advantages, in fact it is not necessarily required access to the landfill itself which is an advantage in terms of both safety for the difficult accessibility of the sites themselves and it should also be considered that in an active landfill the plano altimetric changes are of such a magnitude that they do not require sub centimetric accuracy but rather decimetric accuracy, in most cases it is more than sufficient to monitor an active landfill.
