Light, temperature, atmosphere, sound, are all controlled by the desire for another space, against any natural logic; so it is possible to ski, swim and cross forests in the desert, but also to stay in a climate controlled and virtually continuous space, at home, in the car, at work, in free time, achieving in this case a utopian, uninterrupted environmental continuity , as artificial as it is direct expression of desire.
But this comes at a high cost: the indifference, rather than the independence, from the climatic conditions has an enormous energetic and environmental weight. The frontiers of an innovative and conscious relationship with the energy balance and a reconciliatory urbanism with the context and between its gated parties are still open: Dubai can still be a leading laboratory for global urbanism if it wants to make them the goals of its future.
