Telecommunication satellite technical solutions for geo-localisation of interfering sources: an innovative approach
The subject of the paper is on the technologies and solutions concerning the capability to implement geo-localisation or Direction of Arrival (DoA) of interfering sources at ground from satellite. The stimulus in studying and implementing suitable technical solutions comes from commercial and institutional Satellite Communication (SATCOM) operators. In this context, indeed, the radio frequency interference phenomena are becoming very critical. The technology growing in the SATCOMs is opening new perspectives for the future telecommunication market inducing the operators and, in general, the stakeholders to consider very seriously the impact of the RFI in order to stimulate the research of suitable and affective solutions but taking into account the costs. The present paper provides an outlook on the technical solutions in surveying and defining an effective and convincing geo-localisation technique. The described activity has been performed and targeted on the survey, trade-off and definition of a suitable technique to be easily integrated on-board telecommunication satellites supported by the implementation of a laboratory proof-ofconcept to evaluate the actual characteristics and performances providing some preliminary test results.
