The sars-cov-2 virus pandemic has been forced the scientific community a strong effort in order to understand causes and to imagine possible solutions which could reduce negative effects. This is also a geographical matter of course, but geographers’ ways of participation are related to geography’s public position in different societies and countries, too.
The paper underlines general research difficulties in facing this particular health and social emergency and it highlights the specific intervention areas for geographers.
Then paper proposes first considerations about times and spaces of research in relation to historical lack of significant participation of geographers in Italian public context because of both past and present scientific and educational choices.
