Antonino Pagliaro’s philosophy of language has been considered by many scholars as mainly anti-sociological since in his work the social category seems to be marginal and secondary compared to the primary definition of language as historicity. That would mean an insuperable distance from Saussure’s theory of language. The aim of the paper is to discuss this specific dimension of Pagliaro’s conception of language, starting from his free speeches at conference on The problems of language (Rome, 1956), generally considered as a real turn in the contemporary italian thought on language.
