The article aims to focus on the first five years of the Bourbon Restoration in Southern Italy in order to highlight whether, and to what extent, the so-called “politica dell’amalgama”, theorized - with the support of Vienna - by two authoritative government ministers restored, Donato Tommasi and Luigi de' Medici, was actually implemented. For this purpose, it was decided to take as a viewpoint the Calabria Ultra, one of the most problematic areas of the kingdom on the side of public order, which, after the Restoration, was the subject of an unprecedented division into two distinct provinces.
