Gramsci and Antonio Labriola: The Philosophy of Praxis as Theoretical Genesis of Italian Marxism. Antonio Labriola’s Marxism represents for Gramsci a reference of extreme importance since his youth. In the Prison Notebooks Gramsci resumed Labriola’s approach and considered it as the basis for the elaboration of a new Marxism, indicated since 1932 with the expression “philosophy of praxis”. The article reconstructs and documents the relationship between the two authors. The image of a critical and very peculiar Marxism emerges, which Labriola elaborated towards the orthodoxy of the Second International and Gramsci in the face of the ideological turn of communism in the 1920s and 1930s.
