Conflict and globalisation: New dialogical horizons for the union
Through a sociological reading of conflict, this article aims to re-evaluate the dialogical dimension of conflict by analysing its typical characteristics in contemporary phenomenology. The first part deals with the issue of the global society and highlights the characteristics of fragmentation and localisation of conflicts, by paying particular attention to the dynamics of inequality, the trends in the world of work and the effects on the trade union world. Next, the three types of conflict that underlie the history of the union movement today will be examined: the fall of ideologies, the new forms of social injustice and the new political order in the world, all of which present new challenges. In conclusion, some reflections are proposed to confront and transform conflicts into occasions for meeting, dialogue and social emancipation.
