I am a researcher of sociotechnical systems with a focus on online governance. I work towards making computer-mediated social lives deeper, richer, healthier.

I develop models to identify and characterize tensions in sociotechnical systems: fringe behaviors that challenge collective well-being, such as trolling, sexism, and conspiracy theories, as well as the practices around regulating fringe behavior, such as content moderation and community norms. I work toward a critical framework for understanding the blunders of platform design that currently afford toxicity and misinformation, and improve upon them.
