Associate Professor at Sapienza University of Rome and Secretary General of the Central Apennines Basin Authority (AUBAC). I work at the intersection of digital twin technologies, sustainability and governance in the built and natural environment, with a focus on water resources, risk resilience and climate adaptation. I am a member of the Scientific Committee for Sustainability at Sapienza, teach at the National School of Administration (SNA – Prime Minister’s Cabinet), and participate in national working groups on Sustainable Construction (ITACA) and Hydrogeological Instability and Soil Protection (CNI). Recognized as one of Italy’s leading experts in smart buildings, digital twin and sustainability, I have contributed to the development of standards for sustainable construction within technical groups at ISPRA, UNI, Bank of Italy, Conference of Regions, and ANCE. I have also provided scientific consultancy to public and private organizations and collaborated with UNEP on energy digitalization and climate resilience. I am Founder of HubET Consulting Srl, operating internationally on technological, environmental and energy aspects of high-performance smart buildings, as well as on professional training in green building and smart cities. As Faculty Advisor and Project Manager of the Sapienza team at Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 (Dubai), I led the development of a smart solar house, winning six medals and being selected among the “100 Italian Stories for Future Building” by the Triennale di Milano. More recently, I coordinated the implementation of the AUBAC Digital Twin, an advanced platform for real-time monitoring and predictive management of water resources and environmental risks, integrating AI-enabled GIS, BIM and XR. I serve on the editorial boards of international journals, speak regularly at national and international conferences, and am the author of over 100 scientific publications and 10 books, including “Smart Buildings” (Elsevier, 2016) and “Construction 4.0” (Elsevier, 2021). My works have received over 2,000 citations (2025), and I was awarded the Leonardo Da Vinci Gold Medal (MIUR) for the best scientific project of the year (2019). I teach university courses, master’s programs and doctoral schools on digital twin and smart buildings, and I am a member of the scientific board of the Master in Construction Digital Twin and Artificial Intelligence and of the national PhD in Earth Observation at Sapienza University.
