Stress and depression predict relationship satisfaction with gender differences

Introduction: Factors associated with marital satisfaction are multiple. Psychological health of both partners have been showed to play a fundamental role. Empirical evidences showed negative association between stress and relationship satisfaction, thus highlighting the need of examining stress as a dyadic phenomenon. Similarly, depression seems to negatively predict marital satisfaction, varying across gender. However, evidences are still lacking.

Depression disorder in patients with cerebellar damage. Awareness of the mood state

Background. Although depressive symptoms are often reported to be comorbid with degenerative cerebellar diseases, the role of the cerebellum in depressive disorder needs to be elucidated. To address this aim, we investigated self-perception of the negative mood state in patients with cerebellar pathology and depressive symptoms. Methods. Thirty-eight patients with cerebellar damage (10 with depressive symptoms – CB-DP and 28 with no depressive symptoms – CB-nDP), 11 subjects with depressive disorders without cerebellar damage (DP) and 29 healthy controls (CTs) were enrolled.

Neuropsychiatric disturbances in atypical Parkinsonian disorders

Multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD) are the most common atypical parkinsonisms. These disorders are characterized by varying combinations of autonomic, cerebellar and pyramidal system, and cognitive dysfunctions. In this paper, we reviewed the evidence available on the presence and type of neuropsychiatric disturbances in MSA, PSP, and CBD. A MedLine, Excerpta Medica, PsycLit, PsycInfo, and Index Medicus search was performed to identify all articles published on this topic between 1965 and 2018.

Autonomic and brain morphological predictors of stress resilience

Stressful life events are an important cause of psychopathology. Humans exposed to aversive or stressful experiences show considerable inter-individual heterogeneity in their responses. However, the majority does not develop stress-related psychiatric disorders. The dynamic processes encompassing positive and functional adaptation in the face of significant adversity have been broadly defined as resilience. Traditionally, the assessment of resilience has been confined to self-report measures, both within the general community and putative high-risk populations.

The effectiveness of behavioural and cognitive behavioural therapies for insomnia on depressive and fatigue symptoms: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

This review aimed to assess the impact of behavioural therapy for insomnia administered alone (BT-I) or in combination with cognitive techniques (cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia, CBT-I) on depressive and fatigue symptoms using network meta-analysis. PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were searched from 1986 to May 2015. Studies were included if they incorporated sleep restriction, a core technique of BT-I treatment, and an adult insomnia sample, a control group and a standardised measure of depressive and/or fatigue symptoms.

The assessment of trait emotional intelligence: psychometric characteristics of the TEIQue-full form in a large Italian adult sample

Trait Emotional Intelligence (or trait emotional self-efficacy) is a constellation of emotional perceptions assessed through questionnaires and rating scales (Petrides et al., 2007b). This paper examined the psychometric features of the Trait Emotional Questionnaire Full Form (TEIQue-FF; Petrides, 2009b) in the Italian context. Incremental validity in the prediction of depression and anxiety was also tested with respect to the Big Five. Participants were 1343 individuals balanced for gender (690 females and 653 males) whose mean age was 29.65 years (SD = 13.64, range 17-74 years).

Assertiveness, insomnia and depression: which relationship?

Introduction: Some empirical data and clinical observation suggest that people with chronic insomnia have difficulties in assertiveness. However, the literature on this relationship is very poor. Some studies show that low assertiveness is linked to higher severity of depression. Additionally, several studies support the role of insomnia in predicting the onset of depression. The aim of this exploratory cross-sectional study is to evaluate if assertiveness predicts depression directly and/or indirectly through the mediation of insomnia.

The relationship between caregiving self-efficacy and depressive symptoms in family caregivers of patients with Alzheimer disease. A longitudinal study

Backgroud: Caregiving for a relative with dementia has been associated with negative consequences for mental health. Self-efficacy has been shown to correlate negatively with depression but the long-term association between caregiver burden, caregiver self-efficacy, and depressive symptoms, remains still largely unexplored. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether different self-efficacy domains partially mediated the relationship between caregiving burden and depression.

Frontal EEG asymmetry of mood: a mini-review

The present mini-review was aimed at exploring the frontal EEG asymmetry of mood.
With respect to emotion, interpreted as a discrete affective process, mood is more
controllable, more nebulous, and more related to mind/cognition; in addition, causes
are less well-defined than those eliciting emotion. Therefore, firstly, the rational for the
distinction between emotion and mood was provided. Then, the main frontal EEG
asymmetry models were presented, such as the motivational approach/withdrawal,
