From education to job opportunities. Defining professional profiles for geographers with high competences in GIS environment

In this paper, the importance is underlined of promoting higher education
and training courses and opportunities, focused on a close connection between GIS
and geography to cover topics of remarkable and daily social interest. In the first
part of the contribution, some educational key points are defined in order to fuel a
virtuous circle which can provide considerable methodological and applied skills in
the use of GIS applications. It is considered fundamental to broaden one’s mind, to

recensione a: “Fritsch D. (a cura di), Cognitive Aspects of Human-Computer Interaction for GIS, Basel, MDPI, 2019, pp. 196”

Modellizzazione cartografica in ambiente GIS

Il volume raccoglie alcuni dei risultati raggiunti attraverso due progetti tra loro strettamente
connessi: il progetto GIS4RISKS. Synergic use of GIS applications for analysing volcanic and seismic risks
in the pre and post event e il progetto 3D and 4D Simulations for Landscape Reconstruction and Damage
Scenarios. GIS Pilot Applications. Incentrando l’attenzione sul territorio della provincia di Napoli,
quale eloquente area di studio per il rischio vulcanico, indotto da Vesuvio e Campi Flegrei, sono

Ancient mining landscapes and habitative sceneries in the urban area of centocelle: Geomatic applications for their identification, measurement, documentation and monitoring

This study, focused on the Archaeological Park of Centocelle, was carried out to test the functionality of different geomatic products for the identification and monitoring of complex archaeological evidences in urban areas. The method proposes a better knowledge of the archaeological context as a tool to favour a better protection, allowing the establishment of limits to urban enlargement in areas of respect. The test area is chosen because of the combined presence of hypogeal evidences related to Roman and pre-Roman

Assessment of debris-flow erosion and deposit areas by morphometric analysis and a GIS-based simplified procedure. A case study of Paupisi in the southern apennines

This paper proposes a simplified GIS-based procedure which aims to preliminary assess areas exposed to debris flows by evaluating erosion and deposition area into channels and along alluvial fans. The methodology is based on the definition of several morphometric parameters on Digital Elevation Models (DEMs); it is independent from landslide volume and its rheological characteristics.

Leveraging gis data and topological information to infer trip chaining behaviour at macroscopic level

One of the open challenges in transport modelling is to estimate within-day demand flows that reflect the complexity of individual activity-Travel behaviour. While disaggregate (Activity-Based) demand models can recreate realistic daily mobility patterns at an individual level, they usually require an accurate knowledge of individual user behaviour (i.e. via travel surveys), which is not always available.
