Mozzetta Lab – Muscle Epigenetics & Regeneration
The Mozzetta Lab investigates the epigenetic mechanisms that regulate skeletal muscle homeostasis, regeneration, and disease. Our research focuses on how chromatin organization, nuclear architecture, and transcriptional networks control muscle stem cells and stromal progenitors, with particular attention to fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs), key regulators of muscle repair and degeneration.
We study how epigenetic alterations contribute to impaired regeneration, fibro-adipogenic degeneration, and tissue remodeling in neuromuscular disorders, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy, laminopathies, and age-related muscle decline. Using integrated approaches that combine mouse genetics, human primary cell models, epigenomic profiling, and advanced imaging, we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms of muscle cell fate determination and functional plasticity.
Our ultimate goal is to translate epigenetic knowledge into novel therapeutic strategies to enhance muscle regeneration and counteract disease progression.
