The Carbognano hoard (VT). New reflections on the dating and function of the sub-libral aes grave
This paper aims at reconsidering dating and function of the Aes Grave, in particular the sub-libral series, in some areas of southern and central Italy, against the background of archaeological, historical and topographic evidence. Previous studies and literary sources on the matter are examined, as attention is focused mainly of the finds of some relevant hoards such found in sanctuaries and in votive contexts as Torvaianica, La Bruna, Pozzaglio, Rome’s Monte Mario and others.
