The Use of a novel porcine derived acellular dermal matrix (mucoderm) in peri-implant soft tissue augmentation: Preliminary results of a prospective pilot cohort study

Objective. Over the years, several techniques have been proposed for soft tissue augmentation around dental implants in order to improve keratinized mucosa width (KMW). Recently, a porcine derived acellular dermal matrix (Mucoderm) has been proposed as autogenous graft substitute in order to avoid palatal harvesting and obtain comparable results to connective tissue grafts, in terms of aesthetics and function. The aim of this study is to present the one-year follow-up results of this matrix in peri-implant soft tissue augmentation procedures. Material and Methods.

Clinical outcomes of experimental gingivitis and peri-implant mucositis treatment with professionally administered plaque removal and photodynamic therapy

Aim: To comparatively evaluate the outcomes of professionally administered plaque removal (PAPR) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment for experimentally induced gingivitis (G) and peri-implant mucositis (p-iM). Materials and methods: Twenty systemically healthy patients, each contributing a single implant-supported unit in a posterior sextant and a tooth within the same quadrant, were selected. Patients underwent an experimental G and p-iM trial consisting of a 2-week period of undisturbed plaque accumulation and a 6-week resolution phase following treatment administration.

The alteration of stress-related physiological parameters after probiotics administration in oral surgeons with different degrees of surgical experience

Purpose. Stress is a multifactorial and complex pathway, gaining growing attention from the healthcare community. Surgeons arc subjected to higher levels of stress, due to surgical procedures that arc demanding and repetitive; unfortunately, high-stress levels may also cause side-effects, as surgical mistakes. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of specific probiotics strains formula on stress levels in oral and maxillofacial surgeons, to improve their quality of life. Methods.

Polarized polychromatic noncoherent light (bioptron light) as adjunctive treatment in chronic oral mucosal pain: a pilot study

Objective: Aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of polarized polychromatic noncoherent light (Bioptron light) in the treatment of chronic oral mucosal pain (COMP). Patients and methods: Twenty-two patients affected by COMP were treated with standardized pharmacological protocols in association with Bioptron light (90 W; light wavelength = 480-3400 nm; degree of polarization = 95%; specific power density = 40 mW/cm 2 ; energy density = 2.4 J/cm).

General health & psychological distress in children with temporomandibular disorder

INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are an heterogeneous group of disorders affecting temporomandibular joints (TMJ), masticatory muscles, or both. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between general health and psychological distress variables and the clinical diagnosis of TMD in children between 8 - 13 years old. Moreover, it will be underlined the different perception of psychological distress existing between patients and their parents.

Uterus preserving prolapse repair. How long does it last?

Background: The preservation of the uterus has an important role in the pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery. Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the long-term anatomical and functional outcomes of abdominal hysterosacropexy. Methods: Prospective study. A series of women who underwent open abdominal hysterosacropexy for high-stage POP with a minimum 75-month follow-up were included. Results: Data on 51 patients were included. Median follow-up was 136.7 months (range 75.8-258 months). Apical prolapse cure rate was 100%.

Factors affecting observers' accuracy when assessing credibility. The effect of the interaction between media, senders' Ccompetence and veracity

The present experiment examined how the interaction between senders' communicative competence, veracity and the medium through which judgments were made affected observers' accuracy. Stimuli were obtained from a previous study. Observers (N = 220) judged the truthfulness of statements provided by a good truth teller, a good liar, a bad truth teller, and a bad liar presented either via an audio-only, video-only, audio-video, or transcript format.

Return to work and quality of life after stroke in Italy: A study on the efficacy of technologically assisted neurorehabilitation

Cerebrovascular diseases, including stroke, are historically considered diseases of old adults so only in a few studies has “return to work” (RTW) been considered as an index of rehabilitative outcome. At the moment, data on RTW in patients with stroke are highly variable: four different reviews reported the following ranges: 11–85%, 19–73%, 22–53%, and 40–45%. The absence of re-integration to work after a stroke is shown to be associated with an increase of cardiac disorders and depression, with a higher level of mortality, with social isolation and with insufficient adaptive skills.
