Value of Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Endometrial Cancer Patients: A Prospective Study

The aim of this study is to define the role of preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan and sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy for nodal metastasis detection in Endometrial Cancer (EC) patients. From January 2014 to August 2016 patients affected by EC scheduled for surgery underwent PET/CT scan and SLN mapping with indocyanine-green. Patients with suspicious lymph nodes at FDG-PET/CT underwent selective pelvic lymphadenectomy. In case of undetectable SLN, no further lymphadenectomy was performed if PET/CT scan was negative.

Global and regional burden of disease and injury in 2016 arising from occupational exposures: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016

OBJECTIVES: This study provides an overview of the influence of occupational risk factors on the global burden of disease as estimated by the occupational component of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2016 study. METHODS: The GBD 2016 study estimated the burden in terms of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) arising from the effects of occupational risk factors (carcinogens; asthmagens; particulate matter, gases and fumes (PMGF); secondhand smoke (SHS); noise; ergonomic risk factors for low back pain; risk factors for injury).

Novel 5-oxo-hexahydroquinoline derivatives: design, synthesis, in vitro P-glycoprotein-mediated multidrug resistance reversal profile and molecular dynamics simulation study

Overexpression of the efflux pump P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is one of the important mechanisms of multidrug resistance (MDR) in many tumor cells. In this study, 26 novel 5-oxo-hexahydroquinoline derivatives containing different nitrophenyl moieties at C-4 and various carboxamide substituents at C-3 were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their ability to inhibit P-gp by measuring the amount of rhodamine 123 (Rh123) accumulation in uterine sarcoma cells that overexpress P-gp (MES-SA/Dx5) using flow cytometry.

Controversy about pharmacological modulation of Nrf2 for cancer therapy

Conventional anticancer therapies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapies are associated with oxidative stress generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive aldehydes like 4-hydroxynonenal in cancer cells that govern them to die. The main mechanism activated due to exposure of the cell to these reactive species is the Nrf2-Keap1 pathway. Although Nrf2 was firstly perceived as a tumor suppressor that inhibits tumor initiation and cancer metastasis, more recent data reveal its role also as a pro-oncogenic factor.

Widespread recurrence of pt1 cancer three years and three months after endoscopic mucosal resection

Most authors consider Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) a safe and effective procedure to treat sessile and pedunculated intramucosal colonic cancers (Tis), as very few cases of local or distant (lymph nodes, liver, lung) metastases have been reported. EMR can be effective also in T1 cancers, which infiltrates submucosa and are associated to an overall 10% rate of lymph nodes metastases, with a rate increasing parallel to their distal site.

Endoluminal loco-regional resection (ELRR) by transanal endoscopic
microsurgery (TEM) may be an alternative treatment option to laparoscopic total
mesorectal excision (LTME), in selected patients with N0 rectal cancer. Post-operative
Quality of Life (QoL) evaluation is an important parameter of outcomes related to high
percentage of functional sequelae. We reported, in a previous published paper, the short and
medium term results of QoL in patients underwent ELRR by TEM or LTME.

3-Aroyl-1,4-diarylpyrroles inhibit chronic myeloid leukemia cell growth through an interaction with tubulin

We designed 3-aroyl-1,4-diarylpyrrole (ARDAP) derivatives as potential anticancer agents having different substituents at the 1- or 4-phenyl ring. ARDAP compounds exhibited potent inhibition of tubulin polymerization, binding of colchicine to tubulin, and cancer cell growth. ARDAP derivative 10 inhibited the proliferation of BCR/ABL-expressing KU812 and LAMA84 cells from chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients in blast crisis and of hematopoietic cells ectopically expressing the imatinib mesylate (IM)-sensitive KBM5-WT or its IM-resistant KBM5-T315I mutation.

Novel coumarin- and quinolinone-based polycycles as cell division cycle 25-A and -C phosphatases inhibitors induce proliferation arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells

Cell division cycle phosphatases CDC25 A, B and C are involved in modulating cell cycle processes and are found overexpressed in a large panel of cancer typology. Here, we describe the development of two novel quinone-polycycle series of CDC25A and C inhibitors on the one hand 1a-k, coumarin-based, and on the other 2a-g, quinolinone-based, which inhibit either enzymes up to a sub-micro molar level and at single-digit micro molar concentrations, respectively.

A Phthalocyanine-ortho-carborane conjugate for boron neutron capture therapy: synthesis, physicochemical properties, and in vitro tests

Boronated molecular systems can be applied to boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). Among these systems, carborane-containing phthalocyanines (Pcs) are the most promising BNCT agents. Herein we report the new zinc (II) complex of the hexacationic Pc 6, which has been obtained as iodide salt through quaternization of the neutral precursor with methyl iodide. Compound 6 was synthesized over a sequence of four steps.

The multifaceted role of vitamin b6 in cancer: drosophila as a model system to investigate dna damage

A perturbed uptake of micronutrients, such as minerals and vitamins, impacts on different human diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders. Several data converge towards a crucial role played by many micronutrients in genome integrity maintenance and in the establishment of a correct DNA methylation pattern. Failure in the proper accomplishment of these processes accelerates senescence and increases the risk of developing cancer, by promoting the formation of chromosome aberrations and deregulating the expression of oncogenes.
