Food as an epistemic entity. The case of bread

Bread can be used in a number of different ways, and has considerable and varied cultural significance that has led to a vast range of visions of the world. Considering bread as an epistemic entity makes it possible to realize what Yhuda Elkana defines as “images of knowledge” 1: a multidimensional reading of many phenomena and processes which “constitute the long lost bridges that effectively link the pure and simple social world (norms, values, ideologies) to the body of knowledge” 2.

Longitudinal associations between parenting and youth adjustment in twelve cultural groups: Cultural normativeness of parenting as a moderator.

To examine whether the cultural normativeness of parents' beliefs and behaviors moderates the links between those beliefs and behaviors and youths' adjustment, mothers, fathers, and children (N = 1,298 families) from 12 cultural groups in 9 countries (China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States) were interviewed when children were, on average, 10 years old and again when children were 12 years old.

Disentangling the roles of safety climate and safety culture: Multi-level effects on the relationship between supervisor enforcement and safety compliance

Despite increasing attention to contextual effects on the relationship between supervisor enforcementand employee safety compliance, no study has yet explored the conjoint influence exerted simulta-neously by organizational safety climate and safety culture. The present study seeks to address thisliterature shortcoming. We first begin by briefly discussing the theoretical distinctions between safetyclimate and culture and the rationale for examining these together.

Analysing the diffusion of the ideas and knowledge on economic open problems on female entrepreneur in US over time: the case of Wikipedia (Year 2015–2017)

An important problem on the entrepreneurship field is the precise comprehension of the diffusion dynamics of the ideas and knowledge. In fact ideas can have an important impact on the business and on the managerial decisions. So in this sense the analysis of the evolution of the ideas need to be carefully considered and evaluated. In this work we will propose a time-series cluster analysis of pageviews data of selected topics on Gender in Wikipedia. Results give relevant insights on the evolution of relevant topics as the gender pay and role at work over time.

Strategic entrepreneurship: personal values and characteristics influencing SMEs’ decision-making and outcomes. The Gemar Balloons case

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the characteristics and personal values of a successful
entrepreneur in order to understand the quality of such characteristics. Thus, this paper aims to investigate

Promoting communication, cultural diversity and solidarity inside organizations. The educational European project Codes

The October first 2017 is the opening day of the three-years European project Codes – Communication Diversity Solidarity. Its goal is to design a course focused on intercultural competencies. Such course is intended to train future experts in this field that will be working as “attachés of the communication for cultural diversity” in several types of organizations.

This Special Section collects a list of selected articles that were presented as papers during the Conference ‘Making Education through Culture. Making Culture through Education’ organised at the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Napoli ‘Federico II’ from 13rd to 16th October 2016, as a joint initiative of the groups of the sociology of education, and of the sociology of culture, media and communication of the Italian Sociological Association (AIS).
