Electromagnetic scattering between an elliptically inhomogeneous plane wave and a multilayered cylinder

The interaction of a stratified cylinder with an elliptically inhomogeneous plane wave is introduced and also determined through a rigorous theoretical approach. The scattered electromagnetic field by a multilayered cylinder is investigated through an application of the generalized Vector Cylinder Harmonics (VCH) expansion. The exact mathematical model to represent this scenario considers the so-called complex-angle formalism reaching a superposition of Vectorial Cylindrical-Harmonics and the T-matrix formulation to contemplate the multi-scattering process between the cylinders.

A novel model to detect the content of inorganic nanoparticles in coatings used for stone protection

In the field of restoration of cultural heritage, it has been developed coatings containing nanoparticles having multifunctional features, to protect stone materials against environmental degrading agents. Detecting such nanoparticle concentration within the coating, can represent a challenging issue because its monitoring over time can provide insights about the treatment durability. This paper deals with a theoretical basis to develop an instrumental method to fulfil this requirement.

Effects of finite terms on the truncation error for the addition theorem of spherical vector wave functions

A finite sum adopted for the translational Addition Theorem (AT) of the spherical vector wave functions is a key-point for addressing a well known concept regarding the classical electromagnetic scattering of an incoming wave across a generic dispositions of spheres. The AT is essential for the translation of the vector spherical wave function expressed with respect to a coordinates system toward a different reference.

Introduction to electromagnetic scattering: tutorial

In this paper, an introduction to electromagnetic scattering is presented. We introduce the basic concepts needed to face a scattering problem, including the scattering, absorption, and extinction cross sections. We define the vector harmonics and we present some of their properties. Finally, we tackle the two canonical problems of the scattering by an infinitely long circular cylinder, and by a sphere, showing that the introduction of the vector wave function makes the imposition and solution of the boundary conditions particularly simple. Electromagnetic scattering by a cylinder in a lossy medium of an inhomogeneous elliptically polarized plane wave

In this paper, a rigorous theoretical approach, adopted in order to generalize the Vectorial Cylindrical-Harmonics (VCH) expansion of an inhomogeneous elliptically polarized plane wave, is presented. An application of the VCH expansion to analyze electromagnetic field scattered by an infinite circular cylinder is presented. The results are obtained using the so-called complex-angle formalism reaching a superposition of Vectorial Cylindrical-Harmonics. To validate the method, a Matlab code was implemented.

Machine Learning for analysis of GPR images and electromagnetic diagnostics

The aim of this work is to exploit Machine Learning (ML) for the analysis of Ground Penetrating Radar images.
In particular, the objective is to apply a scaled-down version of DenseNet [1] architecture with a multiporse
approach to extract from b-scan images of buried cylinders: the cylinder radius, the cylinder length, the depth
with respect to the ground, and the relative permittivity of the cylinder and of the medium in which the cylinder
is immersed. The cylinders have an infinite length or have a length much greater than the diameter. The main

Finding the polarizability of radially anisotropic multilayer circular cylinder

In this article, we have studied the electrostatic responseof a Polarly Radially Anisotropic (PRA) multilayer circularcylinder. It consists of different components of the permit-tivity in radial and tangential directions for each layer. Wehave considered the familiar model of quasi-static for ob-taining the polarizability and effective permittivity of thePRA multilayer circular cylinder. We also have studied thebehavior of polarizability of PRA multilayer circular cylin-der, as a function of the number of anisotropic alternatinglayers by using a numerical approach.

The polarizability of an alternative sequence of isotropic and radially anisotropic multilayer sphere

In this article, the polarizability of a multilayer sphere thatconsists of an alternative sequence of layers of isotropic andspherically radially anisotropic (SRA) material has been in-vestigated. Within each SRA layer, components of the ten-sor permittivity have different values in radial and tangen-tial directions. The mathematical treatment for extractingelectrostatic polarizability has been formulated in terms ofscattered potentials.
