Belt and Road initiative è la grande iniziativa cinese di infrastrutturazione della massa eurasiatica che vede come terminale occidentale l'Europa occidentale, mediterranea e atlantica. In questo disegno un ruolo significativo è ricoperto dall'Europa orientale, un blocco di paesi che ha aderito all'iniziativa con un accordo 16+1 che li ha visti primi partner europei di Pechino. Un'aziione geopolitica della Cina, che conques'accordo giunge alle porte dell'Europa occidentale realizzando direttamente opere infrastrutturali e acquisendo imprese e settori economici strategici.
