Phenomenology and religion

It is a fact that the varied philosophical movement that goes under the name of “phenomenology” has broadly accepted in its own field of inquiry a whole family of issues, all converging on a virtual blaze that can be defined, by first approximation, with the generic and all-encompassing noun “religion”. The paradigmatic example of an “ontological-regional” approach is Max Scheler's phenomenology of religion.

Etica, fenomenologia e psicoanalisi. Omaggio a Francesco Saverio Trincia

In the natural attitude, and in the ordinary language, religion is strictly bound to transcendence.
In this paper I ask whether the concept of “transcendence” is legitimate in the phenomenological
dimension, which is opened by the methodological operation of reduction
to the immanence of transcendental consciousness. By examining how “transcendence”
gains increasingly importance in Husserl’s thought, the necessity emerges to distinguish
three levels of it: intentional (or horizontal) transcendence, intersubjective transcendence

Fenomenologia della religione e problema di Dio

What is “Phenomenology of Religion”? This article maintains that it is not a discipline but the formulation of an essential link between phenomenology and philosophy of religion, between phenomenological epochē and the epoch of philosophy of religion. In particular, it will be shown that Levinas’ appropria-tion of the Heideggerian idea of ontotheology allows to pinpoint in the §58 of Husserl’s Ideas the moment in which God comes into phenomenology.
