Interpreting the urban transformation of the historical city. The Garbatella district in Rome, Italy and LAzdynai district in Vilnius, Lithuania

The present contribution proposes some reflections on two residential social housing districts aiming at analyzing the complexity of the transformations of the historical urban texture and highlighting their legacy. As a result of a multidisciplinary collaboration in the fields of Architectural Drawing and Architectural Design, two parallel paths of investigation deal with two geographically distinct case studies, both based on social housing policies.

PROJECTS FOR: ANHAI. A CRITICAL HYPOTHESIS FOR PRESERVATION AND TRANSFORMATION

This book intends to give a contribution to an urgent issue, that concerns the presence of the past in the actual contemporary China, involved in a rapid development that risks to erase the traces of its millenary urban history. The town of Anhai, in Quanzhou city metropolitan area, presents a wide and various urban heritage, typical of Fujian: extensive fabric of traditional, red brick courtyard houses goes together with the presence of some important monuments, among which the ancient Anping bridge is the most relevant.

Urban tales: transformation projects for the Flaminio area in Rome

The interesting urban development of the Flaminio area, the presence of important modern and contemporary architecture, the particularity of its morphological characteristics and the richness of the natural landscape, have led to the development of numerous architectural and urban projects. The article summarise the urban history of the Flaminio area and show project strategies of two architectural research of Sapienza University .

Trip to Italy (VIAGGIO IN ITALIA) -Italy's Modern and Contemporary Landscape History

According to the Census Report, 2009, the landscape is the only root of national identity in Italy. The unity of this country, which is weak in terms of the values shared by Italians, finds a true source of integration in the affection of the citizens for the natural and architectural environments. One of the few reasons why Italians feel that Italy is a unified nation is that they greatly admire their territory.
