Letter to the editor in response to “Medically-assisted procreation and the rise of off-center, new types of “parenthood”: It is incumbent upon lawmakers to intervene”

The present letter is meant as a response to the commentary titled “Medically-assisted procreation and the rise of off-center, new types of “parenthood”: it is incumbent upon lawmakers to intervene”, which was published in issue 4, 2019, of the La Clinica Terapeutica journal. Newly available reproductive techniques have given rise to new opportunities to fulfill one's wishes for parenthood. Such developments have caused procreation to be perceived as a right, intended as the right to «artificial» procreation.

Food labelling. Regulations and Public Health implications

Legislators have implemented policies to improve food labelling to protect consumers and to make the presentation of ingredients and nutritional information more transparent. Proper food labelling allows consumers who may suffer from food allergies or intolerances to know exactly what ingredients a product contains, and it also helps them make more informed health and nutrition choices. This paper deals with the most current European and Italian legislation on food labelling, actions taken in non-EU countries to increase health choices, and the expected impact on Public Health.

Ice cream is a widely enjoyed food that is especially popular during summer. To ensure it is safe and ready-to-eat for consumers, legislation imposes a series of obligations for food business operators, and for competent authorities that have to carry out official controls, including official sampling.

Exploratory evidence on anticorruption activities in the Spanish context: A sustainable governance approach

This paper aims at discovering a sustainable corporate governance approach by analysing the interaction between the board of directors and the application of corporate corruption legislation by Spanish companies. Thus, the objective of this paper is to define the role of the board of directors in corporate corruption prevention activities. Based on a case study using the Gioia methodology, our research seeks to identify the role of the board of directors compared with that of control activities (i.e., corruption prevention activities) within the management system of the company.

Nanotechnology for Food Packaging and Food Quality Assessment

Nanotechnology has paved the way to innovative food packaging materials and analytical methods to provide the consumers with healthier food and to reduce the ecological footprint of the whole food chain. Combining antimicrobial and antifouling properties, thermal and mechanical protection, oxygen and moisture barrier, as well as to verify the actual quality of food, e.g., sensors to detect spoilage, bacterial growth, and to monitor incorrect storage conditions, or anticounterfeiting devices in food packages may extend the products shelf life and ensure higher quality of foods.
