A Procedure for aggregation of quasi-static time-varying harmonic components. A Matlab-Simulink model

The paper proposes a generic Matlab-Simulink model to represent quasi-static time-varying non-linear loads in power systems. The methodology presented allows to combine both deterministic and a probabilistic approaches. The procedure is able to evaluate voltage and current harmonic spectra under uncertainty scenarios in a power system allowing a preevaluation of harmonic disturbances.

Numerical simulation of chemical erosion in Vega solid-rocket-motor nozzles

The erosion of rocket-nozzle ablative thermal protection materials during the solid-rocket-motor burning time
needs to be accounted for to get reliable performance predictions, especially for long-duration firings and/or small
nozzles (that is, upper stages). This work numerically investigates the erosion behavior as a function of chamber
conditions for the nozzles of the Vega launch vehicle solid rocket motors: Zefiro 9, Zefiro 23, and P80. This study has

HiTEC: a connectionist model of the interaction between perception and action planning

Increasing evidence suggests that perception and action planning do not represent separable stages of a unidirectional processing sequence, but rather emerging properties of highly interactive processes. To capture these characteristics of the human cognitive system, we have developed a connectionist model of the interaction between perception and action planning: HiTEC, based on the Theory of Event Coding (Hommel et al. in Behav Brain Sci 24:849–937, 2001). The model is characterized by representations at multiple levels and by shared representations and processes.

A Simulink model to assess harmonic distortion in MV/LV distribution networks with time-varying non linear loads

The paper proposes a novel approach to modelling time-varying non-linear loads in power systems, based on demand conditions. The model allows a pre-evaluation of harmonic disturbances under variable conditions using normal and uniform distribution to randomize the electrical values of the non-linear loads and the related harmonic spectra. A measurement campaign conducted on an industrial area, a deposit/maintenance and repair site utilized for trains in operation on the metro line B of Rome, has been taken into account to verify the model performance.

Experimental and computational Investigation of salophen-Zn gas phase complexes with cations: a source of possible interference in anionic recognition

We explore the possibility that protonated molecular ions might be an unexpected source of interference in the recognition process of anions and neutral species by Zn-salophen receptors. Zn-salophen complexes are known to bind anions and neutral molecules in solution. We present here evidence (from computational work and IRMPD spectroscopy) that these complexes can also be the binding site for protonated pyridine or quinuclidine. The resulting binding pattern does not involve the Zn ion, but one of the oxygen atoms directly attached to it.

Environment and evolutionary history shape phylogenetic turnover in European tetrapods

Phylogenetic turnover quantifies the evolutionary distance among species assemblages and is central to understanding the main drivers shaping biodiversity. It is affected both by geographic and environmental distance between sites. Therefore, analyzing phylogenetic turnover in environmental space requires removing the effect of geographic distance. Here, we apply a novel approach by deciphering phylogenetic turnover of European tetrapods in environmental space after removing geographic land distance effects.

PaaST: Preservation as a Service for Trust
